Remote Learning Technical Support

Dear Oak View Families,

At the beginning of this school year, I don’t think any of us predicted that 2020 would bring a pandemic. Schools and businesses are closing, schedules are uprooted, and grocery stores are low on toilet paper (of all things). But we can always find the silver lining if we look for it. Our country is pulling together to drastically slow the spread of this virus. We are sacrificing normalcy to keep the number of those contaminated as low as possible. I also feel fortunate that our district is taking proactive measures to keep our students safe rather than waiting for a confirmed case to close schools. It won’t be convenient, but it’s a measure to keep as many people as safe as possible.

Oak View Office

The office will be open from 8:00-3:00 if possible during the week.

Remote Learning

As Dr. Himsel’s email explained, we will be starting “remote learning” on Wednesday, March 18th. The goal is to continue instruction so that students can stay on track with the grade-level gains they have been making all year. It won’t be the same as being in a classroom with a teacher, but we are going to keep our routine and make the best of this unique situation. Teachers will use Google Meet or Canvas Conference (think of it like Skype or Facetime) to check-in with the class, and they will be available throughout the school day to help students with any questions they might have. I will still deliver morning announcements, students will be able to see and interact with their teacher each day, they will still have their related arts classes, students who qualify for them will still receive special education services, etc. We are going to strive for routine as much as possible. We are also aware that some students may not be able to check in during these scheduled times. Students will be allowed to complete work in the evening and access any instructional videos during this time as well.

The schedule for Remote Learning is listed below. As I mentioned above, routine is going to be extremely important for our kids. Please do everything you can to ensure that students are ready for class at 8:00, they tune in for their related arts class at 10:00, and they check in with their teacher at noon. If students cannot access their classes according to this schedule, they will still have access to assignments, directions, and teacher videos on their teacher Canvas page at any time throughout the day.

Spring Break

Spring break is still scheduled for March 27th through April 5th. Students will not have class during spring break.

Remote Learning Schedule

Special Area Schedule:

Curriculum / Instruction

  • We will focus learning on what is most essential – math, reading, and writing.
  • Teachers will integrate science and social studies into the three areas above as necessary.
  • In order to make these lessons meaningful, students will not be given a lesson for every subject each day.
  • Over the course of the week, students should engage in learning in all subjects that would normally be taught.
  • Attendance will be taken each day. Please encourage your child to be present during the live check in if possible to maintain a regular routine.
  • If students cannot access their classes according to this schedule, they will still have access to assignments, directions, and teacher videos on their teacher Canvas page at any time throughout the day.
  • If you do not have internet access and your students need to receive remote learning materials via another source, please contact Mr. Wilkins or the classroom teacher as soon as possible.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we improvise under these unique circumstances. Don’t hesitate to reach out to me or to your child’s teacher if you have any questions. Hang in there!

-Jamie Wilkins
